Tommy DeMauro Blog Post #4

It’s amazing to me how fast this semester has progressed; it feels like only weeks ago I was walking into Gumberg Library to meet Ted for the first time. I’ve accomplished many goals that this internship had set in place for me, and I couldn’t be happier with how far I’ve come learning and using the LibGuides software to create research guides. Our Ukraine guide is doing great with close to 300 views on it. It’s still being updated whenever larger news stories surface from the current crisis, so we’re always on the lookout for more information to add.

Over the last couple days, I’ve been working on a 1980’s Icons and Events research guide, an idea created by me and revised by Ted. Here, we’re aiming to show the key characteristics of this important decade in pop culture and history in general. With so much of our daily lives in 2022 being influenced by the 80s (like vintage sweaters, Polaroid cameras, cassettes, Ray-Bans, and more), I think it’s important to show students where a lot of their interests come from. Progress is going smoothly but taking a bit more time to complete due to the research involved in creating the guide. However, I think once this guide gets posted, many students will be visiting it with the hopes of learning more about this interesting decade!
