Reflecting on the Process

By: Suzannah Costa

Since the last post I wrote, a lot has happened in terms of this internship. I have officially completed both pieces I was working on for the internship. The poster was completed a little while ago, and the storybook just made it through the final edits and printing last week. Reflecting on the time and process I took to complete these two pieces, I realize I was so eager to put in the work and time needed to make these pieces successful because I was able to do something that I was passionate about. Despite how busy my semester got at times, being able to come back to my room and write the storybook or finish the poster were things that I was happy to do. This internship allowed me to do things related to something I am passionate about. It is my hope that these two pieces make their way to places where children will benefit from them and use them.

Although there were times this internship stressed me out, I am extremely glad I have had the opportunity to partake in such an amazing experience. Being in this program taught me to think outside the box from other perspectives. I had to think of not what I want to get across to children, but of what children wanted to hear and see. It took me a bit of time to figure this out, but in the end, I did it. This experience has been one of the highlights of my semester, and the skills I have learned from this I will take with me to medical school and whatever lies beyond that.
